ODYTA Summary

The historic Gijón skating rink is entering a new phase after the renovation of its surface. The track will be available again starting this Monday and will host the XXXVII Astur Patín International Trophy on September 26 and 27. The Moreda-Natahoyo Skating Rink in Gijón has been refurbished for speed skating. The Municipal Sports Board has completed renovation work on a facility closely tied to the history of Asturian speed skating, which for years has hosted training sessions and competitions at national and international level. The project, with an investment of nearly 50,000 euros, has renewed the surface of the speed track, which covers approximately 1,430 square meters and will be available to athletes again from this Monday, September 14. The renovation comes at a particularly important time for Gijón skating. In just two weeks, on September 26 and 27, Moreda will once again become a meeting point for numerous skaters with the holding of the XXXVII Astur Patín International Trophy. The event will allow many participants to compete for the first time on the renovated surface and will be one of the first major sporting events after the works. For RollerZone, it will also be a very special weekend. During the Astur Patín International Trophy, the presentation of RollerZone Spain Magazine No. 9 will take place, a new edition that will arrive accompanied by the 2026 Spanish Speed Skating Team Sticker Album. Moreda will thus once again bring together competition, fans, clubs, and some of the initiatives that are helping to give greater visibility to speed skating. The renovation is not limited to the speed track. In the interior space of the oval, a new surface 20 meters wide by 40 meters long has been set up for roller hockey and inline hockey. This new area will still have to wait a few weeks to come into operation, as the perimeter fences and goals are still pending. It is expected to begin being used during the month of October. For Asturian speed skating, the renovation means recovering in better conditions an emblematic facility for several generations of athletes. Clubs, schools, and skaters regularly use the Gijón skating rink, and its track has been the scene of countless training sessions, trophies, and competitions. Now, with a renovated surface and the Astur Patín International Trophy just around the corner, Moreda is preparing to once again hear the sound of skates at full speed. On September 26 and 27, the new track will have one of its first major events. And RollerZone will be there to tell the story.
