Sangüesa plans a new approved skating rink for international competitions

ODYTA Summary

The Sangüesa/Zangoza City Council has drafted a project to build a multi-sport and skating rink prepared to host international competitions, to be located in the Cantolagua area on the grounds of the former municipal campsite. The initiative responds to a long-standing demand from the skating section of Club Deportivo Cantolagua, whose athletes have trained for years without a dedicated rink, using streets, frontons and other adapted spaces. The section said in early 2026 that it had nearly 21 years of activity in Sangüesa without specific facilities while continuing to grow competitively. The Cantolagua skating section currently maintains an active school and competition team and again took part this season in the National Under-15 League, as well as competing in regional, national and international events. In February, the section counted 34 federated skaters, from youth categories to Master. The need for a rink is especially visible at competitions such as the Trofeo Ciudad de Sangüesa, which held its 16th edition in June using an urban circuit again; the lack of a dedicated facility also forces outdoor training and occasional traffic closures. For Sangüesa and Navarre skating, the rink would mean more than a new sports facility: it would improve training conditions for young skaters, boost the club's growth and open the door to organizing higher-level competitions. The project still has to go through the necessary steps before becoming reality, but it is described as especially exciting news for a section that has shown for years that the lack of a rink has never been enough to stop its desire to skate.
